The relationship between photography and literature or creative writing is complex and its output is rare.
Our publisher wanted to see a few draft chapters of the book before he gave his final go ahead to publish it. When we started working on these chapters for “Aesthetic Nomads” in the summer of 2023, we felt that the photos had a distinct narrative, but that there was also a possibility to enrich that narrative.
So I went back to my student years and started writing again: vignettes—short-form creative prose—to go with the photos that my wife took and bundled in chapters per destination. Most of the times, they are not descriptive and the destination merely serves as inspiration for the text.
Our publisher loved it! And the book is selling well around the world.
Once we finished the book, we continued with this format and publish on Substack. We’re starting to see some traction now.
Happy to be a part of it, Fernando, you did a tremendous job gathering us around the street photography fire & producing a truly beautiful zine! Loved reading everyone's stories❤️
